couple quick questions about an ls2 swap

do you have to use the ls2 lifter trays in the ls2 or are the ls1 lifter trays compatible?

are the map sensors the same, just on a different part of the manifold, or are they different?

is the cam position sensor the same, and just moved to the front, or will i need a different cam position sensor?

i posted this up on tech, but nobody has answered yet, figure i would give it a shot over here

Well I wish I could honestly I have never attempted the LS2 swap. Are you using your stock computer or are you swapping out the whole pcm and harness too. If you are using stock pcm you will want to use your sensors with ls2 computer use ls2 sensors. And the lifter trays should should be fully compatible as with all the other parts between the engine. Basically the LS2 is a LS1 with bigger cubes and a much more complicated pcm.

well the guy selling my shortblock said you need the ls2 trays with an ls2 block, im using my ls1 pcm, i bought the extender from katech, but i though the sensors were different for the cam because i heard if you extend the connector yourself you need to cross some wires or some shit like that, im not sure, im using my ls1 knock sensors, the block is tapped for the ls2 sensors.

im just not sure about the cam sensor

the cam gear on like late 05 early 06 on ls2 (corvette at least) has different pickup "humps" on it. Call the dealer and they dont know s**t about it, gm just changed the progamming in the ls2 pcm. If u have the early style gear your fine, and i cant recall if you have swap wires, i think its done in the little short harness on the front of the motor. If you have the later style cam gear, the car runs, sorta... as for the cam sensor itself, ls1 and 2 are different. Ill look at the pinouts for the 2 sensors tommorrow and let you know.

ok, well the lifter trays are different, just got my shortlock yesterday and seen why, im an idiot and have my l76, so i just put my map sensor on it and its the same.

as for the cam sensor, i looked at my katech extension harness and they dont swap any wires, the connector that go to the cam sensor are wired the same on my harness and the extension harness

    Talking

ok i did one befor on a holden ok the monly thin you need is an extention for the map sensor if you are going to use an ls2 engin what i mean with that is you are going to use the hole ls2 engin on a ls1 car.

and for the knock sensor there is harness allows the single-wire LS1 knock sensors located on top of the LS1 manifold to be relocated on both sides of the LS2 block and plugged into the factory LS1 PCM harness. It has the perfect added length and thermal protection required to be routed near hot exhaust manifolds. Compatible with the PCM harness in LS1 Corvette and F-Body cars.

for the cam sensor you cant use the ls2 sensor because its complettly defrant than the ls1 so there is harness allows the cam sensor used on the front of a LS2 motor to be plugged into the LS1 cam sensor connector located at the back of the intake manifold. This harness is perfect for LS2 motor conversions. Compatible with the PCM harness in LS1 Corvette and F-Body cars.

for the new 2005 - 2007 LS2 engines Chevrolet has gone to a single bolt camshaft sprocket design and uses a spring-loaded chain tensioner. To install the earlier style camshaft with the three-bolt sprocket you need this kit. Kit includes three-bolt sprocket, chain damper & camshaft bolts. The damper is installed with the original bolts from the chain tensioner.

you just do what is righting in the top and you will be ready to .

. for us what we did we got ls2 engin from the junk and we did all the harness that we need for it to swap it to ls1 so it can work the car made with just a cam and headrs LT's 420HP 410TQ and thats good for us for that kind of good project.

    thanks,
    jassim

well i was able to get my hands on some L19 head studs, so i shoudnt have to worry about the heads lifting since im not using the standard studs, so im going to throw a hefty shot at it, im going direct port with a stand alone fuel cell for the spray. only thing that will hold my ET down is the fact im using a 6speed, but hopefully it will be one of the faster 6 speeds out there.

I don't know what the record is with a power adder but I do know T56 Rebuilds hold the all motor record with a 6 speed with a 9.33!!!! I just bought that same transmission. LOL.

im not going to shoot for a record, cause im still keeping it somewhat a street car, with the leather seats, and radio and heat and other shit.

im shooting for a final raceweight of about 3400lbs with me in it, i just want to try to keep it under 3500

ya, i dream of the records, and think about them, then i think about reallity, Joe Hunneycutts car is a race car used for nothing else, there are no luxories in it, im still trying to keep my car nice and able to drive on the street, sure i want to go a fast as it possibly can, but im still trying to keep it somewhat practical, i should have the rest of my shit tomorrow, i just got my cam yesterday, and my tranny will be done by monday.

so hopefully shell be on the road again soon

My goal is to have the fastest car retaining Air conditioning, 6 speed, drag radial, and of course my IRS. I am keeping my fingers crossed with the new combo. And us being at sea level with no humidity might help me out when I get some track time.

ya, i was looking at keeping my ac, but i said screw it, im just keeping the radio. i am going with a set of slicks, fuck trying to get a drag radial to hook with the 6 speed.

good luck with your goals. when its all said and done i should have a solid 9 second car hopefully

9 seconds is a good goal. I hope I can get it I know the IRS and 6 speed won't help me but if I can get enough power I might get it.
